إِنَّ أَوَّلَ بَيْتٍۢ وُضِعَ لِلنَّاسِ لَلَّذِى بِبَكَّةَ مُبَارَكًۭا وَهُدًۭى لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

 Surah Imran Ayat 96 (3:96)

Inna awwala Baitinw wudi’a linnaasi lallazee bi Bakkata mubaarakanw wa hudal lil ‘aalameen.

بے شک سب سے پہلا گھر جو لوگوں کے لیے بنایا گیا وہ ہے جو بکّہ میں ہے، بابرکت اور جہانوں کے لیے ہدایت ہے۔

నిజానికి, ప్రజల కోసం ఏర్పాటు చేయబడిన మొదటి ఇల్లు బక్కాలో ఉంది, ఇది ఆశీర్వాదం మరియు లోకాలకు మార్గదర్శకం.

SAHIH INTERNATIONAL
Indeed, the first House [of worship] established for mankind was that at Makkah – blessed and a guidance for the worlds.

YUSUF ALI
The first House (of worship) appointed for men was that at Bakka: Full of blessing and of guidance for all kinds of beings:

ABUL ALA MAUDUDI
Behold, the first House (of Prayer) established for mankind is the one at Bakkah: it is full of blessing and a centre of guidance for the whole world.

MUHSIN KHAN
Verily, the first House (of worship) appointed for mankind was that at Bakkah (Makkah), full of blessing, and a guidance for Al-‘Alamin (the mankind and jinns).

ALA-MAUDUDI

(3:96) Behold, the first House (of Prayer) established for mankind is the one at Bakkah: it is full of blessing and a centre of guidance for the whole world.^[79]

79. The second objection raised by the Jews was that the direction for Prayer had been changed from Jerusalem to the Ka’bah. This objection is answered in (Surah 2 (see verses 142 ff. and nn. 142 and 147 above) The Bible, itself, testifies that Jerusalem was built by Solomon more than four and a half centuries after Moses (see 1 Kings 6: 1), and that it was during his time that the worshippers of the One God began to pray towards it (1 Kings 8: 29-30). It is established by traditions from numerous sources which are undisputed throughout Arabia, however, that the Ka’bah was constructed by Abraham who lived some eight or nine centuries before Moses. That the Ka’bah was older than the Temple of Jerusalem was beyond dispute.

KAABA WAS RE-BUILD BY IBRAHIM Alaihissalaam إِبْراهِيْمُ علیہ السلام

1700 BC The Ka’aba was Re-Built by Ibrahim and Ismail on the Same Place where it was in earlier times.

The Ka’aba was Re-built by Abraham إِبْراهِيْمُ علیہ السلام and his son ismail إِسْمَاعِيْل علیہ السلام as the house of God. This was a place for reverence and worship. (Islam)

As Muslims, the Ka’aba is central to a large part of our faith. As the first House of Worship, it is fundamental to Hajj and to our history as Muslims. It’s also the qibla (direction) towards which we turn towards in prayer five times a day. But that’s not all. Did you know that the Ka’aba itself was built by Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his son Ismail (AS)?

Commanded by Allah (SWT), Prophet Ibrahim (AS) first built the Ka’aba:

“And remember Ibrahim and Ismail raised the foundations of the House (With this prayer): “Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us: For Thou art the All-Hearing, the All-knowing.” (Quran, 2:127)

When it was first built, it was a simple rectangular structure with no roof.

The Quraysh tribe who ruled Makkah then re-built the Ka’aba in 608 CE with wood and stone.

When Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was then forced out of Makkah in 620 CE, upon his return in 629/30 CE, he removed the idols housed in the Ka’aba, however keeping the Black Stone inside that was given to Prophet Ibrahim by the Angel Jibreel.

When Prophet Muhammad made his final pilgrimage in 632 CE, the final steps of Hajj were then established. Alhamdulillah!

Every day we pray facing the direction of Makkah and if we’re fortunate enough to undertake Hajj, we make tawaf around the Ka’aba.

During Eid al-Adha when we mark the end of Hajj and make our sacrifice (Qurbani) for the sake of Allah (SWT), we replicate the Sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), ready to sacrifice his son Ismail (AS) for the sake of Allah.

By giving Qurbani, we follow in the footsteps of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and remember his devotion to Allah (SWT). Don’t forget to make your sacrifice and give your Qurbani in time for Eid!

The Kaba is the holiest site in Islam, and it is the qibla, the direction Muslims face when praying.  It is called the Kaba because of its shape; cube in the Arabic language is ka’b.  Sometimes the Kaba is called Al Bait Al Atiq, or the emancipated house, Prophet Muhammad said that this name was used due to the fact that God has protected the Kaba from coming under the control of tyrants.

Verses from the Quran are written on tablets inset in the marble and the upper part of the interior wall is clad with green cloth decorated with gold embroided verses.  Lamps hang from a cross beam; there is also a small table for incense burners.  Caretakers perfume the marble cladding with scented oil, the same oil used to anoint the Black Stone outside.

The Black Stone, an ancient sacred stone, is embedded in the eastern corner of the Kaba, one and a half meters above the ground.  Prophet Muhammad said , “The black stone came down from paradise and it was whiter than milk, but the sins of the sons of Adam turned it black”

The scholars of Islam have differed on who built the Kaba. Some say that it was built by the angels.  Others say the father of humankind, Adam built the Kaba but over many centuries it fell into disrepair and was lost in the mists of time, to be rebuilt  by Prophet Abraham and his son Ishmael.  All agree that the Kaba was either built or rebuilt by Prophet Abraham.

“And (remember) when Abraham and (his son) Ishmael were raising the foundations of the House (the Kaba at Mecca), (saying), ‘Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us. Verily, You are the All-Hearer, the All-Knower’” (Quran 2:127)
