The word “Islam” means “submission” or “surrender,” reflecting the religion’s core principle of submitting to the will of Allah.
Key Beliefs:
- Monotheism (Tawhid): Muslims believe in one God (Allah), who is omnipotent, merciful, and unique. Associating partners with Allah (shirk) is considered the gravest sin.
- Prophets: Muslims believe in all the prophets sent by Allah, including Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad (peace be upon them all). Muhammad is regarded as the final prophet.
- Holy Books: Muslims believe in the divine scriptures revealed to various prophets, including the Torah (Tawrat), Psalms (Zabur), Gospel (Injeel), and the Quran. The Quran is considered the final and most complete revelation, preserved in its original form.
- Angels: Belief in angels is a fundamental aspect of Islam. They are seen as spiritual beings created by Allah to carry out His commands.
- Day of Judgment (Akhirah): Muslims believe in an afterlife where individuals will be judged by Allah based on their deeds. The righteous will be rewarded with paradise (Jannah), while the wicked will face punishment in hell (Jahannam).
- Divine Decree (Qadar): Muslims believe that everything happens according to Allah’s will and knowledge, though humans have free will to choose between right and wrong.

- Sunnah and Hadith: The teachings, actions, and sayings of the Prophet Muhammad, which provide practical examples of how to live according to Islamic principles.
Branches of Islam:
- Sunni Islam: The largest branch, comprising about 85-90% of Muslims. Sunnis emphasize the consensus of the community and the traditions of the Prophet.
- Shia Islam: The second-largest branch, which believes in the leadership of Ali (the cousin and son-in-law of Muhammad) and his descendants as the rightful leaders of the Muslim community.
