Gulf of Mexico or Gulf of America?

The Associated Press (AP) announced on January 23 about their AP Style guidance with the Gulf of Mexico and Mount McKinley. AP will refer to the gulf by its original name while acknowledging the new name Gulf of America. The agency stated the AP Stylebook will be updated to reflect the changes.

The Gulf is bordered by the United States to the north (Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas), six Mexican states to the west (Quintana R o d , Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan), and the island of Cuba to the southeast.
